100 Days

Today was my hundredth day cycling to work this school year. We'll see if tomorrow will mean 101 since Environment Canada is predicting a significant dump of snow.

Success

Luke's been pedaling all week. As he says, "At first I hated this, now it's awesome!"

Grace riding!

...or rather pulling. This is what she likes to do with her trike.

How do you teach kids to ride?

Day 3 of trying to teach the boys to ride bikes. We've been putting this off for a long time.
I took their pedals off and they have been having nightly balance practice.

A new bike finally!

Last week I picked up my new Trek 7.5FX. It's truly a pleasure to ride to work these days (the beautiful spring weather helps too.) I've added a rack for my panniers and fenders for rainy days, but it's still much lighter than my old Bianchi. My old bike has served me well since 1992. It will now be relegated to winter service.

Snow

Finally it looks like we'll be having some accumulating snow. The weather has been so dry that I've been able to ride everyday to work. It was really dry this morning, but the flakes started to swirl around at about 2:00 p.m. Liam took these pictures as I walked the boys home from school.

Winter Cycling

With the mild weather I have been able to cycle commute on far more days than last year. I rode everyday until the last two weeks of school before Christmas - that's when the wintry weather hit. This picture is from one of the two days I rode after that. We had a big thaw mid-January and so I've ridden every day for the last two weeks. It's hard to believe the difference, especially when I look at the pictures of our almost impassable street from last year at this time.

Back to biking!

I started commuting on my bike again last week. So far so good. If I can do it on a day like yesterday - lashing rain and high winds, then I should be able to ride every day. I've had my bike since the summer of 1992, so it may be time for a replacement.

Should I be biking?

I took these pictures on Friday. With the roads looking half-passable and other hardy souls out cycle commuting, I wonder if I should be out there. The bike hasn't moved since December 15th and I miss it.
